12.12 Truck Routes

12.12.010 Use by Nonpassenger Vehicles Required.

It is unlawful for any truck, as defined in Section 12.04.001, to enter upon or to be operated upon any street within the City except those streets designated as and identified as truck routes.

12.12.020 Exceptions to §12.12.010.

The provisions of Section 12.12.010 shall not be applicable to those vehicles engaged in repairing or construction of streets under the authority of the City or vehicles making or returning from the delivery of services or goods to any residence or business within the City, provided the vehicle uses the most direct route A.) between the truck route designated in Section 12.12.040 and the location receiving the goods or services or B.) between locations receiving the goods or services if using a truck route between the locations is impractical.

12.12.030 Bridge and Culvert Load Limit Signs to Have Precedence.

On streets and thoroughfares designated as truck routes, bridge and culvert load limit signs and regulations shall be complied with and take precedence over truck route designations.

12.12.040 Truck Routes Designated.

The following streets are hereby designated as truck routes within the limits and jurisdiction of the City:

    Merriam Drive - east-west through City
  2. B.
    Johnson Drive - east-west through City
  3. C.
    Shawnee Mission Parkway - east-west through City
  4. D.
    75th Street - east-west through City
  5. E.
    80th Street - from Santa Fe Drive to Metcalf Avenue
  6. F.
    Santa Fe Drive - from 80th Street to 87th Street
  7. G.
    87th Street - from the west City limit to Santa Fe Drive
  8. H.
    95th Street – east-west through City
  9. I.
    103rd Street - from the east City limit to Quivira Road
  10. J.
    College Boulevard - east-west through City
  11. K.
    119th Street - east-west through City
  12. L.
    127th Street - from Pflumm Road to Antioch Road and from Metcalf Avenue to Nall Avenue
  13. M.
    135th Street - east-west through City
  14. N.
    143rd Street – east-west through City
  15. O.
    151st Street – from the west City limit to Nall Avenue
  16. P.
    159th Street - from Pflumm Road to Mission Road
  17. Q.
    167th Street - Pflumm to Metcalf 
  18. R.
    175th Street – from Lackman Road to 179th Street
  19. S.
    179th Street – from 175th Street to Metcalf
  20. T.
    Pflumm Road - from College Boulevard to 143rd Street
  21. U.
    Quivira Road - from the north City limit to 143rd Street and from 151st Street to 179th Street
  22. V.
    Switzer Road - from 119th Street to 167th Street
  23. W.
    Antioch Road - from the north City limit to 167th Street
  24. X.
    Blue Valley Parkway - from 119th Street to U.S. 69 Highway
  25. Y.
    Metcalf Avenue - north-south through City
  26. Z.
    Nall Avenue - from the north City limit to 159th Street

12.12.050 Posting of Signs.

The streets and thoroughfares set forth in Section 12.12.040 should be properly identified and posted as truck routes within the limits and jurisdiction of the City.

12.12.060 Construction Areas Excepted.

All vehicles to which Section 12.12.040 is applicable shall be permitted to enter upon streets in areas under construction or where construction and building are taking place (other than those streets specifically set forth in Section 12.12.040) for the purpose of delivering and receiving construction goods or materials, provided the vehicle takes the most direct route to and from the facilities as designated in Section 12.12.040 when entering or leaving the construction area or area where building is taking place.

12.12.070 Violation - Penalty.

Any person, firm or corporation who violated the provisions of this Chapter is guilty of a public offense and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than $50 nor more than $200 for each offense.
