16.310.N1103.3.7

Section N1103.3.7 of the 2024 International Residential Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

N1103.3.7 Duct system testing. Where required by the code official, ducts shall be pressure tested to determine air leakage by one of the following methods:

Rough-in-test: Total leakage shall be measured with a pressure differential of 0.1 inch water gauge (25 Pa) across the duct system, including the manufacturer’s air handler enclosure if installed at the time of the test. Registers shall be taped or otherwise sealed during the test.

Post construction test: Total leakage shall be measured with a pressure differential of 0.1 inch water gauge (25 Pa) across the duct system, including the manufacturer’s air handler enclosure. Registers shall be taped or otherwise sealed during the test.

Exceptions:

1.

Testing shall not be required for duct systems serving heat or energy recovery ventilation systems that are not integrated with duct systems serving heating or cooling systems.
2.

Testing shall not be required where the duct system and air handler is located entirely within the building thermal envelope.
